Since 1989, Washington County Habitat for Humanity has built 44 homes for qualified, deserving, low-income families in need of decent affordable housing. Currently, we are building three to four homes each year, but there is much more demand for affordable housing than we are able to provide.
The most important aspect of our mission is that we offer no hand-outs; those that benefit must pay and work for it! Our "target market" is familes who are living at or hovering just above the poverty line. Ofthen, they have children who aspire to a better-life – for whom a decent home can make a world of difference.
Families are chosento partner with Habitat based on their need for affordable housing, their ability to repay a 0% habitat mortgage, their willingess to contribute at least 350 hours of 'sweat equity' and their commitment to meeting our savings and learning requirements.
When you invest in Washington County Habitat, you are not only supporting our missionto construct basic, affordable homes, but also investing in the strengthning of our community:
• By significantly increasing the County's tax base;
• By focusing reinvestment in our community;
• By building future community leaders and;
• By growing relationships and developing a strong sense of community
We say invest because Habitat is not a charity!
